A day in the life...

So, today I ran errands and noodled around waiting for a call to go to my regular Thursday work gig at the McMansion in Durham with Mrs. Building Owner. I got a message at 9 AM that said she had a hospital appointment at 10 AM that should take a couple of hours.
At 2 PM I had talked myself into telling her she would have to wait until Saturday.
When she finally called at 2:36 PM, she was insistent that she needed me to go to her house today, so I did. She desperately needed me to finish typing a script for her---she has a radio interview tomorrow morning. We had already worked for two days typing answers to a bunch of questions, so I thought we were finished. Turns out she wanted me to listen to her practice reading. YIKES!
Luckily, about 5 minutes in to the reading, her nephews came to visit and I was able to LEAVE!!!

I've been reading and listening to people talk about the angst of dealing with family this holiday and am so relieved I am out of that drama. I still talk to two of my brothers, one in New Mexico and one in Virginia, but I have not spoken to my mother since August of 1983. And that is a beautiful thing. No drama, no manipulations. Peace and feelings of self-love are more important than a relationship with her.

Three things I am thankful for:
Good health.
Lovely friends.
The surge of hope in this country.

I still feel pissed off about that comment Sarah Palin made about community organizers. The AmeriCorps VISTA program (I served as a VISTA for a year), supported by the government, is a community organization program. Bite me, Sarah Palin.

Okay, so even though I don't own a television, I thought I would find a way to watch the debate last night. Found a live feed on BBC-USA and listened to a bit.
Really (!) enjoyed the way Bob Schieffer handled the candidates.
My favorite question was about the qualifications of the VP candidates in case they had to take over as President. Obama had a substantial answer on Biden's qualifications, but the only thing I can remember McCain saying, repeatedly, was that Palin is a reformer. Made it sound like that was the only thing he could think of to say about her. His was a lame answer that made her sound very unqualified, and made him sound insincere in his praise.
